I wonder ...

… about signing up for the full circumnavigation - that's 10 ocean racing yachts covering 40,000 miles in 15 long races, reaching 13 different Countries?

Look at this http://www.clipperroundtheworld.com/index.php/Home

Well, I got my sign up pack, (can't wait to tell Stan!). I will have to decide whether I will do some legs or the lot soon! The choice is Leg 1 to Brazil - then Leg 2 to South Africa - Leg 3 takes the 22 crew on each Clipper 70 across the Southern Ocean to Australia. Leg 4 poodles around Oz to New Zealand and back (via the Tasman Sea!). Then Leg 5 Is to China via Singapore. Leg 6 heads off the the west coast of the US and then Leg 7 goes to the east coast via Panama. Leg 8 is the homeward sprint across the Atlantic!

The first Clipper Race was back in 1996 and until 2002 crews did the circumnavigation in the race’s original yachts, the Clipper 60s, However the fifth race, 2005-2006 had a brand new ten-strong fleet - the Clipper 68s, but for 2013 - 2014 (my dates of interest) there will be a new fleet! The new boats will be Clipper 70 - the third generation, designed by renowned naval architect, Tony Castro.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston says, “Racing around the world still remains one of life’s great challenges and I’m extremely proud to have witnessed over the past 15 years how the Clipper Race has changed people’s lives and turned almost 3,000 sailing novices into experienced ocean racers ….” (he's the Chairman of Clipper Ventures!).

Eleven months for the full circumnavigation … the dog will have forgotten me; the kids might have got married, and Margaret, …?

Oh well!
